Demetri’s photographic work pushes the envelop of classical photography. Using scanners, he captures the finest details of flowers and other objects in ways that are not possible with traditional cameras. The unique lighting techniques applied combined with high resolutions in the range of 50 to 100 mega-pixels enhance the translucency of his subjects and at great magnifications they reveal anthropomorphic or zoomorphic features. He photographs flowers while they are wilting, capturing moments in reality that are usually overlooked. Observers are invited to discover another world full of delight and expressiveness. His latest work extends to installations, backlit displays, mixed media and multimedia where he combines photography with sculpture and digital video performances of "dancing" flowers. Demetri received his undergraduate degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Aristotelian University in Greece. He proceeded to study at the University of Georgia where he received his MS in Statistical Computer Modeling and his Ph.D. in Digital Image Processing and Computer Graphics. As faculty at the University of Georgia, he pioneered research on merging digital data from various sensors and viewing 3-D images on computer displays. He also developed advanced algorithms for enhancing and displaying digital images and received several patents for software innovations. Gallery Representation:
